The main reason for choosing a Suprima in the first place was usually its remarkably small size. At only 16” wide, 20” tall and 10” deep it would fit easily inside a standard kitchen wall cupboard, but paradoxically this makes replacing one particularly awkward as modern boilers are almost all physically larger.
If you have a little extra height available, the Glow Worm “Energy” boiler is one candidate being 15” wide, 28” tall and 11” deep. The extra 8” of height is not as critical as might first appear as the old Suprima will have a flue outlet elbow fitted on top of the boiler in addition to the dimensions I gave above, whilst the Glow Worm Energy has the option of a flue exit directly through the the back of the boiler case with no flue elbow on top. It may even be possible to re-use the existing flue hole through the wall but take note, the rear flue exit is not in the centre of the boiler. It is offset by a couple of inches. A structurally identical boiler is also available under the Vaillant brand name, the Vaillant “ecoFIT pure”, with (arguably) better electronics and user interface.
Another candidate is the Baxi “Eco Blue”. This boiler is 15” wide, 24.5” tall and 11” deep n although shorter in height than the Glow Worm Energy, the flue is connected with an outlet elbow on top, similarly to the Suprima being removed. The flue is in the centre of the boiler however.
Bear in mind that all new boilers have to be of the condensing type (not to be confused with a combi), so waste water will be produced when running, so your new boiler will require a drain connection.
A third possibility might be the Daikin Altherma 3C 24kW, which usefully is only 10” deep, so may fit inside the same cupboard as the Suprima being removed. Height and width are 24” x 16”. More details on the Daikin website here. Please bear in mind Daikin are recent entrants to the UK domestic boiler market and have no long term track record of technical support or spare parts supplies in this field. They may be fine but I’ve no personal experience of the company or of their boilers. They are a large Belgian manufacturer of commercial and industrial air conditioning and heating products.
